Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 9, 2026

The short version

CountCharacters runs entirely in your browser. The text you paste or type is never sent to our servers — we couldn't read it even if we wanted to. We don't require accounts, we don't sell data, and we keep tracking to a minimum.

What we don't collect

  • The text you analyze. All counting happens locally using JavaScript — nothing is uploaded.
  • Account information. There are no accounts, logins, or passwords.
  • Email addresses, unless you choose to email us.

What we do collect

We use Vercel Analytics to understand which tools are used and how the site performs. It collects anonymized data such as:

  • Page paths visited (e.g. /twitter-character-counter)
  • Approximate country (derived from IP, which is not stored)
  • Referrer, browser, and operating system
  • Anonymous events for things like "widget snippet copied"

Vercel Analytics does not use cookies and does not track users across sites.

Local storage

We use your browser's localStorage to remember preferences like your theme (light/dark) and which platform limits you have visible. This data stays on your device and is not sent anywhere. You can clear it any time from your browser settings.

Embedded widget

If you embed our widget on your site, the same rules apply: your readers' text stays in their browser. The iframe loads from countcharacters.net and is subject to this same policy.

Children's privacy

CountCharacters is a general-audience tool and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
